The present application relates to biofiltration materials for filtering a fluid. More specifically, the present application relates to a biofilter material comprising consolidated organic material, and use of such biofilter material for wastewater treatment. Provided is a biofilter bloc for wastewater treatment comprising a porous consolidated assembly of at least 20% w/w of organic materials, and wherein the consolidated assembly shows a density of about 35 kg/m 3 to about 275 kg/m 3 .
